They say talk is cheap. Only if you are speaking with a hooker.
Please enjoy my list of favorite musical interviews from the past year. In no particular order.
- Chris Birkett – The producer of Sinead O’Connor’s Nothing Compares 2 U shared an impressive life story as well as impressing with a vast catalog of his own tunes which are slowly making waves across the Country with messages for humanity.
- Burton Cummings – One half of the songwriting team in The Guess Who as well as a huge success as a solo artist – was as welcoming as a Country Grandmother on her porch. A profound insight into the psyche of one of Canada’s most celebrated artists.
- Meredith Moon – Gordon Lightfoot’s daughter was forthcoming in her thoughts as why not to be recognized as Canada’s greatest songwriters’ daughter until she made waves on her own. Her enthusiasm to learn every component and every instrument along with the history of Canadian music; impressive and extremely talented.
- Bob Wegner – An accomplished multi – instrumentalist spent six years researching and putting together the most definitive book on his favorite Canadian band; Max Webster. Engaging and filled with insightful and educated thoughts.
- Ray Angry – The Keyboardist for The Roots displayed an ‘iceberg’ of musical knowledge and education under the tip of his association with Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show band. A Classically trained pianist and producer with a resume of working with the who-is–who in the music industry.
- Dom Hemelas – Local drummer ( multi – instrumentalist / producer) venturing out on his own despite health issues. A true visionary who sticks to his guns – win or fail. Elegance on A Nudist Beach for sure!
- Rad Crasto – Producer, singer / songwriter, and multi – instrumentalist shed light on the reason why so many bands have a very short life span. Hint; it has nothing to do with the bands.
- Kerry -Anne Kutz – The Montrealer takes her own musical skills and devotes endless hours putting on La Festival de la Voix every year despite increased difficulty in funding and locating venues.
- Aldo Massa – An accomplished drummer / percussionist and educator. One of Montreal’s most sought after session men. Aldo Nova, Celine Dion – just two artists Aldo drummed for at their peak.
- Liona Boyd – Canada’s First Lady of the Guitar. Engaging and modest despite her virtuosic talent and enduring songwriting capabilities.
