Under skies as blue as the sea – the Jazz Festival is slowly creeping into Montreal’s conscience once again.

Sunny War from Nashville and one of America’s fastest rising musical ‘poets’ who – like Kerouac before, rode the trains and learned to live, writes what she knows.
Sunny learned to play guitar by emulating the banjo which allows for one of this century’s most unique sounding artists to paint the landscape with equally jaw – dropping lyrics and an honest look into the reality of America.

Sunny was on The Blues stage last night which may have been the closest genre the Jazz Festival could come up with to accommodate songs such as ‘If It Wasn’t Broken‘, ‘Love Became Pain‘, ‘Lucid Lucy‘ and ‘No Reason‘. The latter from her latest disc Anarchist Gospel.
You must admire someone who, from a young age , always thought heroin was cool and then became an addict to prove her point. Like so many who came before in the music world – creativity is discovered and delivered through heroin. Sunny’s habit may be gone yet the creativity continues with a no – holds take on the ills and pills which keep America ticking. Sunny providing the maintenance to keep the frame from falling apart.
Part Country, part Blues, part Americana, part Punk equals all Sunny War as her between songs banter proves; she nobly cares about her music and messages while learning to be fake is not high on her priority list.
