I first saw and met Ritchie and Dave Henman when their trio (w/George Mack on bass) Prism (no relation to the late 70s band) played Oromocto High School. They did Hendrix’s ‘1983, A Merman I Will Be’ and James Brown, with Dave playing a Les Paul Junior and leaping in the air while the strobe light flashed. Great stuff! Dave came to my house the next day and was interested in the ‘talent wanted’ ads Paul McCartney was running for Apple Records in copies of the New Musical Express I had (he wrote down the contact info). I saw the band the following night at the YM/YWCA in nearby Fredericton. Then I moved to the UK for five years. Upon returning I joined top local Fredericton band Redeye. David’s band The Dudes played one of our regular venues (the Rolling Keg) and Ritchie’s band (don’t recall the name but he shared drumming with another lad) played the Riverview Arms. I later reconnected with David when he was editor of Canadian Musician magazine and I was marketing manager for Sabian cymbals (Myles Goodwyn came from nearby Woodstock, NB). It was during my time with Sabian that I also got to know Jerry Mercer, as he was an endorser (though I remembered him from his days with Triangle and Mashmakhan). What I always admired about these lads was their commitment. Dave Henman was alway rock ‘n’ roll, and I assume he still is. Good for him.
