Somethings arrive once a month. Somethings arrive once a year. Gregory Porter’s vocal talent comes around once a decade.
Porter was in Montreal last evening as part of The Montreal International Jazz Festival. La Maison Symphonique de Montreal – the ONLY backdrop which should accommodate Porter’s presence.
‘Holding On’ is what Porter wanted you to do from the beginning. The Disclosure cover set the tone for a night of styles which showcased Porter’s voice but also each band member’s prowess. Solo, ensembles – the night had something for everyone.
The two time Grammy Award winning singer who dabbles in all genres of music from soul to Jazz, went through his catalog last night choosing his favorites and tunes that are dear to most hearts.
‘On My Way to Harlem‘, grounded everyone in R&B. ‘If Love Is Overrated‘ caught the ladies attention as Porter touched his ( and their) sensitive sides. My Girl (The Temptations Cover) – awoke every age bracket in the place with a stunning rendition of a musical staple. Gregory Porter is a once a decade kinda guy. Hopefully it will be less than a decade before he is back in Montreal.
