In 1962 – a pager, a cordless phone and something called a computer were introduced. The Cuban Missile Crisis and the death of Marilyn Monroe were in the news. The Rolling Stones played their first gig in June.
‘Come On’, a Chuck Berry composition, became the band’s first hit in 1963.The year(According to Keith Richards),The Rolling Stones officially started as Charlie Watts became their drummer.

In 2023 – Robot knowledge sharing, 4D printing and brain – computer interfaces are being introduced. The war in Ukraine show no signs of ending and Elvis Presley’s daughter Lisa – Marie passed away at the age of fifty – four. The Rolling Stones released their first single without Charlie Watts.

On October 20th, The Stones are releasing Hackney Diamonds. It is the name of the new album and the title is appropriate. The name ‘diamonds’ is Hackney slang for broken glass. With the death of Charlie Watts in 2021 – The Rolling Stones’ hearts were shattered.
In a mock ad announcing the new album in a Hackney newspaper, ‘come to Hackney Diamonds and we will fix your shattered glass.’

There is a lot of repairing needed both internally and externally surrounding The Rolling Stones and their legacy. Healing from Watts’ death is internal for Jagger, Richards and Wood. Healing from eighteen years without a new album – external for millions of Stones’ fans around the world. Judging from the first two singles released from the album; both The Stones and their fans have gotten great service thus far from ‘Hackney Diamonds’.
Angry – the first track released, displays the band in their true punk – ish rebellious form following an up to date ‘matter of affairs’ lyrically from Jagger. In true Stones’ fashion; Angry is a social statement more than a personal one. Metaphors have showcased The Stones catalog (Satisfaction,Paint It Black,Midnite Rambler, Mother’s Little Helper, Sympathy for The Devil, Miss You, Too Much Blood, etc etc ) as much as the melodies and chords have since 1963. With everyone seemingly ‘angry’ with everyone both on social media (streets?) in 2023 – Jagger sings; Don’t be angry with me – I’m not angry with you’. A thought that comes daily from many of the world’s population as people interact in texts and comment sections. Musically – Richards’ proves why he is known simply as ‘the riff master’.

The main difference between the 2023 Stones and the 1963 Stones is the absence of Watts and the swing he brought to The Stones (and Jagger’s) hips. It’s a new era as The Rolling Stones enter their seventh decade in music. Drummer Steve Jordan has grounded the sound and somehow has made his ‘new’ mates ground themselves in return.
Angry and the second released single ‘Sweet Sounds of Heaven’ (feat.Lady Gaga and Stevie Wonder),hears The Stones more united and in their true ‘state of minds’ since the album Some Girls in 1978.
All The Stones’ albums post SG’s have had moments of brilliance and togetherness but always seemed like it was a job rather than music when Mick and Keith were together. At the ages of eighty (Jagger), soon-to-be eighty in December (Richards) and seventy-six (Wood) combined with the reality of Charlie Watts’ death; perhaps The Rolling Stones realized ‘time is not on their side’ any longer and that ‘time waits for noone’.
Perhaps they have simply discovered a great glass repair shop and want everyone to ‘come on’ and get repaired just like they have been.
